One liberal leaning college is causing an uproar by offering an inherently racist class to its students. The University of Kansas has announced that in the coming fall they will offer the “Angry White Male Studies” course, which is sure to cause some anger all on its own.
The class is listed as exploring “the deeper sources of this emotional state while evaluating recent manifestations of male anger.” It will review history in America and Britain from the 1950s onward as it seeks to answer “how both dominant and subordinate masculinities are represented and experienced in cultures undergoing periods of rapid change connected to modernity as well as to rights-based movements of women, people of color, homosexuals, and trans individuals.”
It’s baffling how an institution of higher learning could fail to recognize the racist tones of such a course. But local Republican Rep. Ron Estes is willing to speak up and draw attention to the matter.
“Instead of a course to unite people and empower women, KU has decided to offer a class that divides the student population and could pose a Title IX violation by creating a hostile campus environment based on gende,” Estes shared via his Twitter.
Estes is on to something citing Title IX which prohibits any program receiving federal aid from allowing discrimination based on sex.
According to Campus Reform, the University of Kansas received $148,178,000 in federal research funding in 2017 alone.
At this time, the University of Kansas and the courses teacher Christopher Forth, have not responded to the controversy.
