“The owners are the plantation owners”
The new smear against President Trump for criticizing spoiled NFL athletes kneeling during the national anthem is no longer that he’s a fascist dictator, but a slave-driving racist who thinks the NFL is a mass plantation.
Speaking with Anderson Cooper on CNN, filmmaker Spike Lee said Trump thinks that NFL team owners were “plantation owners” by calling for the athletes firing.
“When he says — he is really telling the owners — like the owners are the plantation owners and the guys playing in the league, they’re on the plantation,” said Lee. “You can’t say anything. And so, the thing’s really escalated. And then I get back to it, when you talk about somebody’s mother, that’s a no-no. And he has not apologized at all, so.”
He added, “Did he talk about the mother of the neo-Nazi, the alt-right, the KKK, those guys, crazy people in Charleston?”
Former Jon Stewart correspondent Samantha Bee of Full Frontal also pushed a similar talking point during her program on Wednesday night.
“What a conversation we’re having!” Bee exclaimed in reference to the NFL protests. “Talking about black people and their owners and how they should be grateful for the privilege of working on a field. Who says Trump is taking us backwards!”
