In an appearance on “The Late Show,” Meghan McCain shared with host Stephen Colbert the tension between her family and President Donald Trump’s.
The admission came while McCain was recalling the eulogy she gave at her father’s funeral.
“We gather here to mourn the passing of American greatness, the real thing, not cheap rhetoric from men who will never come near the sacrifice he gave so willingly,” McCain had said at the event.
The biting words compelled Colbert to ask, “Did you know that Jared and Ivanka Trump would be attending when you wrote this?”
That’s when McCain not only expressed that she didn’t know they would be in attendance but that she fully expected them to have known they weren’t welcome.
“I thought that my family made it clear — or at least I had — that the Trumps were unwelcomed around me and my father, had sort of been very clear about the line between the McCains and the Trumps. So I was surprised when they were there and it made me uncomfortable and I hope I made them uncomfortable, honestly, with everything,” McCain shared.
She further went on to elaborate that “I really want it made very clear that the Trumps have beef with me then and in the words of Cardi B, they’re gonna have beef with me forever and I’m not going to forget.”
The segment aired following President Trump made remarks about McCain’s late father.
